I am a very naughty mummy!

Recommended Posts

Yesterday afternoon I cleaned out and moved the chicken ark onto a new piece of lawn (a 2 daily occurrence) My girls always love it when they get a new bit of grass :) We then had an enjoyable evening infront of the TV and at about 10 when I went out to wind up the ladder to secure my girlies in their roost for the night I was horrified to find that I had forgotten to actually wind the ladder down after cleaning and all the hens were piled up asleep in the two dust bath trays in their run :anxious: Once the flood light was on in the garden then then all decided that it was morning, up they got and proceeded to peck around the run. I turned the light down but that didn't work, "Ooops, word censored!"ody wanted to go up to bed so I had to do the usual climb in the ark and one by one placed each hen up the ladder. "Ooops, word censored!"ody wanted to move along the perch to make room for the next one up so it all became a pretty fraught operation and yes there was plenty of poo on the ground by then for me to be kneeling in!!!

Anyway, this morning they have all come down right as rain (perhaps they saw me as the hero of the night!!!) However, I feel extremely mean and would be quite prepared for no eggs today :lol:

:lol: I can just imagine kneeling in the poo :lol:

I'm sure we've all done something similar :oops:

OH once let the girls out of the cube, then as soon as the last one was down the ladder he slid the door shut again :shock: ........... just one too many slidy operations on the old door mechanism me thinks :roll:

Thankfully they laid their eggs in the spare eglu and not around the garden...........can you imagine if they started to do that :eh:

IT HAPPENS TO ALL OF US ONE WAY OR ANOTHER :P:P:P

I once cleaned out the coop and having sprayed everywhere with poultry shield I did the back of the pop hole leaving it closed.

When I went to lock them up for the night .... no chooks :!:

Hubby found all four fast asleep dotted round the garden under shrubs ... we have a lot of dense undergrowth.

:oops::oops::oops:

Yes, we are all bad mummies - social services would be interested in all of us....

I accidently closed the run door .... with the girls outside. When i went out at bedtime to check them, they were asleep huddled on the chairs under the table - took ages to find them! poor babies - had to carry them to bed - scabbling through the cube run. Only later i realsied that i could have just opened the back and popped them in!!! As i said social services may be interested.... :wall::roll:

Oh I feel much better now having read all of your stories - just cant' get it out of my mind what they all must have been going through at 7.30 - 8pm looking up and thinking "where is our ladder, where s our ladder :eh: !!!" Having said that none of them seem to have suffered and none of them seem to blame me :wink:

i found this story very funny as a similar thing happened to my partner cal, we had an automatic pop hole fitted and one night cal went down the garden to get the feeders out for the filling.

She had a shock as for some reason all the girls were huddled together in the run, so cal had to come back into the house and get a flashlight which she shone on the sensor for the door to open. However the girls had other ideas and as the flashlight dimmed the pophole started to come down, so like you she had to go into the run on her knees and help the girls one by one but the pophole would not budge so she had to get each girl and put them into the hen house through the main door.

When i came home from work she was not too pleased, once i saw her coat covered in pooh and she told me what had happened i could not keep my face straight, so you can see that you are not the only one!

calnick :D:D:D
