Sooo  we won't be having eggs for some time yet (ours will be growers when we collect them).

Your girls sound like they are going an eggcellent job - well done them :D

Actually, just while I think about it.. can you tell the difference in the taste as they are truly fresh? I would imagine you can !

Hello Eggquisite

Just wait until you try a fresh egg poached :D

Fresh eggs really keep their shape and the whites don't 'explode' when you drop them into the water.

If you like your eggs fried, again the fresh egg will stay where you put it and not run all over the frying pan.

Leave your oldest eggs for sandwiches as older eggs are easier to peel than fresh ones.

Tips for a great looking yolk.....ask your neighbours to give you all their dandelions :D

In the absence of any marigolds at the moment the dandelions give the yolks a great colour and our chooks just can't get enough of the leaves, gobbled down in the wink of an eye.

Hello Debs

Nice to see an omleteer in Neath.

I have family on my Father's side who still reside around the Scewen (sp) area, but I've never met them. My Grandfather came to work in the pits in north Notts in the 1920's and lost contact with those he left behind in Wales :(

Enjoy your chicken keeping and it nice to meet new members to the forum.

Just been out to collect the first of today's eggs, a nice warm 61g.

Kind regards,

Christine

Hi Christine,

I know Skewen well, I also have family there, I live around 4 miles away the other side of town.

Lovely to meet you!

Hi Aga n Chickens (Christine),

Thanks for the tips on the cooking front.. am looking forward to the eggs already :D

& it sounds like there could be some fun with the dandelions - the bunny loves them too, that said she can't lay chicken eggs so I think the chucks may win that battle

Collected in today's layings and have just entered the end of month data into the running tally spread sheet.

 Hmmmm, hadn't thought about keeping an 'record' within a spreadsheet - my OH is going to get seriously worried about me
