LaPoule
I've given dried mealworms that I picked up in the petshop, marketed for wild birds, and although the chooks ate them, it didn't elicite a very enthusiatic response. It didn't creep me out as much as I expected having the worms in my hands though
Surrey Hen
I've never bought them packaged like that but my girls love meal worms. Usually they have live ones from WigglyWigglers - they are absolutely crazy about them and mug my OH when he goes into thier run with them. They look on all other treats as second best Surrey Hen
purplefowler
My girls love dried meal worms with a passion. I am a cheapskate and got a tub from wilkinsons (100 grammes for about £2.50 I think) and they go down fine, or at least I have not had any complaints! I keep meaning to get some fresh ones as my local pet shop does a tub for £1.99, but everytime I go they are waiting for fresh stock and the ones they have left are usually half dead or beetles! Angels4
I've fed my girls "Zoo Med" for a while, they LOVE them . The also LOVE them dried, but these are still moist and they go grazy for them. There is also cans of crickets, snails, catapillars, and grasshoppers. Here in the states you can get a bulk discount of 24 cans for just $84.95 a 20% discount as each can is $4.29. quickcluck
I've had the live meal worms too but struggle to keep them alive long enough
Egluntyne
I've not heard of these so I googled them. Farm raised mealworms are cooked in the can to lock in the natural juices. Just pop the top and you have a fresh and flavorful diet your animals will readily consume. Yummy. They are a bit expensive, but if they are a treat, what the hell. I'd be interested to know what your girls think of them.
badgerbluebadger
I have order a few tins online to see if they like them - I thought that this would be better protein than dried meal worms which I know my girls love but really have no nutritional value. I thought if they do like it, then great source of protein to give them when they are moulting, rather than tuna or cat food which I know other people have commented they give their girls. I do would perfer to give my little madames things they could find in the garden themselves. I think live worms are great but I really don't like the idea of them looking at me moving about. I will let you know the result of the taste test.
Valkyrie
Yes I've seen the cans - I was going to do a bushtucker trial with my MIL the other year - then I saw it wasn't for humans and thought I'd better not. Although that part probably doesn't cover the MIL.
