Car for a learner driver

Recommended Posts

Very interesting to read about the insurance - have been umming and ahhing about that (don't want number one messing my car up, so been putting it off until DS has practiced with the instructor - and heaven forbid DD is 17 and eager too!). OH's cousin's insurance wanted £1,200 for her son - I think that was a no go area. DS has only recently expressed an interest and he's nearly 19 now (actually it's probably the competition between siblings and he wants to get there first).

Have you thought about a Daihatsu, something along the lines of a Sirion? They are cheap to buy (not sure on the saftey rating but as long as you don't buy an import it'll be Euro NCAP rated) and cheap to insure.

Daihatsu Cuore's are also very good, though not a lot of street-cred - most come with an 847cc engine so again very cheap to buy and run. Be careful you don't get something along the lines of a Daihatsu Mira Classic or Avanzato - they may only be 647cc but they have a turbo!

Anyway, lots on AutoTrader to look at!
