Growing carrots

Recommended Posts

Yes indeedy. Carrots like it very free draining, in fact, too much water leads to a lot of top growth at the expense of root development. Good luck, I'm sure they'll turn out fine! We've had a lot of luck with the variety James Scarlet Intermediate this year.

They are worth it, & probably my favourite thing to eat from the garden.

When you thin them initially,I tend to not thin them too much, then pull every other one as a baby size when they are a bit bigger.

They taste wonderful, & the hens go mad for the tops too.

My hens look at me in horror when i suggest they might like to try carrot tops.

Mine are addicted to bolted spinach at the moment, I have the stalks standing in a bucket of water and they perch on the side pulling it to shreds. We have lovely orange egg yolks at the moment :D
