Valkyrie
Had to make an appointment for the vet. We are off in the morning. Her eye, which seemed to be OK has now swollen (well the red bits around it have) and show no signs of improvement with a few more doses of tea. Just to add to the problem I think she is egg bound, so checked, can feel the shape, but can't see it. Have put loads of Vaseline around and about. Just to show her appreciation she then pooed on me. Other than that she seems bright, tail up, comes running at the sound of the back door, eating, scratching etc. I'm a bit worried by the lack of an egg and that it may be stuck further up though. Hopefully the vet will sort her out both ends if nothing happens in the rear end by morning. Apparently they see chickens occasionally, but there is a very chicken friendly vet in Andover if they can't help. Is there anything else I can do in the meantime or just keep a watchful eye. I don't want her to get peritonitis.
theherd123
Sorry the read your girl is unwell but the vets appointment sounds like you have done the right thing and as you say keep a close eye on her and hope for a positive outcome at the vet. Keep us posted
Budgies
I don't think there's anything you can do to avoid egg peritonitis, but getting her to the vet is the right thing to do. Good luck for tomorrow.
Valkyrie
Thanks - she seemed fine when they went to bed and hunkered down OK, was a bit too dark to rummage up her bottom again. Just thought I've left the vaseline in the garden! Let you know what happens in the morning - oh, later on this morning!

Valkyrie
Thanks for all the good wishes and ANH for your little smiley - must have worked - we brought her back home with us intact, but rather miffed at having fingers up her bum for the past couple of days! She did a bit of a John Wayne walk and voiced her opinion very loudly all the way down to the bottom of the garden when we got home. With regard to her eye we have drops/ointment to put in and around. That was fun - I had to get her in a head lock so the vet could get at her. She was better behaved the other end. She has a bit of a temperature, but I was assured she wasn't egg bound, so not sure what the lump was - it's not there now for sure - and she has the thumbs up for having a nice clean botty inside and out. She might have the start of mycoplasma (in her sinuses - hence funny eye), so just in case I have a weeks dose for all the drinking water and everyone can be treated at the same time, hopefully they will build up an immunity - the younger they get it the better apparently. Ruddy pigeons. Her feeling under the weather might be the reason for not laying. So now we are all sorted and then we go for a follow up session next Monday. Oh, and she was weighed too - just over 4lb. We are not eating her even if she never lays eggs again.
Valkyrie
Apache has just laid an egg! Methinks she won't want to go to the vet again in case her bum is looked at again.
