BHWT Mr Kipling Feather Campaign

Recommended Posts

The letter for non-exbatts is up on the BHWT website now :D . To get to it CLICK HERE

Good luck with all your letters everyone  .

Thanks :D I had a look but missed it.

I was expecting it to talk about chickens, so might write my own letter with similar lines to the ex-batt one, but put it as my ex-batt friends or something :)

Makes it more personal too.

Good idea :D , I know what you mean, it would be lovely if your letter came from chickens in support of their ex-batt friends.

I got a reply from the Mr Kipling company this morning. It's a whole A4 page letter so I will scan it or type it in later so you can all read it.

Here is the letter I received from the Mr Kipling company yesterday,

Dear Mrs Wood

Thank you for getting in touch with us to let us know of your concerns about the welfare of

Battery hens and your suggestion that Manor Bakeries should launch a range of Mr. Kipling

Cakes made with free range eggs.

All of the egg used in our cakes is purchased from approved suppliers within the UK or EU. All have been audited by our parent company, Premier Foods Group. Additionally, every farm is subjected to regular independent assessment against the assured food standard. Our audits cover traceability, and allow us to verify the well-being of the egg laying flocks and the veterinary care provided.

However, we are aware of increasing consumer concern about the conditions in which laying flocks are reared, and the rising interest in ethical sourcing of food ingredients.

Together with Premier Foods Group, we have been investigating practical ways in which we might influence improvements in hen welfare. You may already be aware that both Ormo Pancakes and Quorn, Premier Foods Group brands, have recently received the "Good Egg Award" from Compassion in World Farming for switching to free range egg, this is evidence of the seriousness with which we view this issue, and our intention to make real changes when practicable.

The quantity of egg used in Mr. Kipling Cakes means that making a change to free range egg is no easy task. Compassion in World Farming themselves state "Moving to barn or free-range egg supply can be a complex process. We understand the challenges you face and that change sometimes has to be incremental. “Nevertheless, we are currently looking at how this might be undertaken, and a task group is due to conclude its work shortly.

As a brand, Mr. Kipling is reliant on its consumers, and we continually monitor all product attributes and qualities to improve product appeal and perception. Therefore free range eggs figure highly in our considerations for future development. We will let you know more when we are in a position to give you details of our plans in this area.

Yours sincerely

Kevin Moseley

customer-care--Manager

It will be interesting to see if we all receive the same letter, I get the feeling we will :? . I have taken, from reading their reply, that they do realise that the message is beginning to get out there about hidden eggs in products, and that their sales will be hit. It would be PR disaster for them if they failed to live up to the promises they have made that have got them the good egg award, so I think the future is definitely looking brighter :D

Keep those letters going though, the more people that they think will stop buying their products if they don't change the source of their eggs, the faster they are likely to make the change :) .
