Pheasant chick of fate hatched today...Pics too!

Recommended Posts

A few weeks a pheasant was killed by a dog, she had been sitting on some eggs and my dad rescued them and shoved them under my newly broody silkie.

Well last night they started hatching and I only realised this morning (we had no idea how old the eggs were) when I moved her off the nest and realised that 4 had hatched and had been suffocated :wall: .

I wasn't sure if she'd killed them deliberately, I don't think so I think she just clamped herself on the nest too hard (she's difficult to move). Anyway, I grabbed the eggs and put them in the incy just in case, and look what has hatched. So far only one but I can hear something in another.

I'm not really sure what to do with them, whether to try and put them ( for more)back with her tomorrow or to riase them ourselves with our two week old pekins (obviously not until they're bigger).

Also, do you think the silkie would adopt the pekins? She's still broody and they're quite small - or will she know they're too old?

Thanks!!! Here you go...

Hi

If you have the room to keep the pheasants they can become quite tame...not sure about the pekins at all (novice here) How nice to know a couple of the eggs have survived despite an over keen mother hen...my ducks were hatched by a neighbours silkie a couple of batches so may be the chicken made a bit of an error here?

good luck

indie :)
