craftyhunnypie
My chicken friend just rang - lives round the corner from me. He had 12 eggs from me to put under his broody nearly 3 weeks ago. 6 from my big girls & 6 bantam eggs. Unfortunately, a week in the shelf where the brrody hen was collapsed and the eggs fell to the floor, the broody hen still sat on them. The big girls eggs smashed & cracked. 5 had embryos in & 1 infertile. We are both upset & gutted. However all the bantam eggs survived the nearly 2ft drop & are due Tuesday/ Wednesday. But this does prove a point that the eggs my big girl Marlene (gold laced wyandotte) are sat on in our shed could hatch. We were uncertain that Boon our big boy Cochin was doing his job - he obviously is. Our Marlene is in her broody coop / area now, built by hubby over this weekend. It's brilliant! dancing cloud
Sad that Marlene's first batch met such an unfortunate end, but good to know she might be able to raise her own Bet you're really excited at the prospect of your little banties! craftyhunnypie
The banties egg are what my friends broody is sat on. My Marlene is sat on Heinz 57 eggs from the following - Black Rock Gold Legbar Gold laced Wyandotte Bluebelle Goldline Amber star All fertilised by Boon our Partridge cochin boy or even Poppet our lavender Araucana boy. I am fascinated & excited to see what if anything hatches. Thing is, I can't remember when Marlene clutch are due. But I know there should be chicks by the end of May. She will make a lovely mummy as she is so fluffy feathered & broad. Cute. Fingers crossed. I also have silkie eggs in the incubator. Those are due 3rd June, I can't wait to candle them next week. Lewis
How sad At least you know your cockerel is doing his job and that they were fertile, and that the banty eggs are ok. Good luck with all your hatches Pictures of the new broody coop would be good
craftyhunnypie
Pics are on hubby's camera taken by him. So waiting for him to download them - then I'll get him to ping them me on googletalk, so I can save & resize in photobucket. I am impressed with what he's done.
