Hi everyone, this is my very first post and it's really sad. Thursday evening a fox killed my beautiful hen, Lola. AND IT WAS MY FAULT.I left it too late to shut the pop hole and as I was about to do this, I heard my chooks in distress. I found Lola dying in the bushes and the fox escaping from the garden. She died within a few seconds, but my other little brown hen, Debbie, was in the house, injured.I took Debbie to the vet who said her injuries were very deep and it was kinder to put her to sleep. I sadly agreed, but now feel ENORMOUS GUILT - maybe she would have recovered?. They had been my girls for 2 1/2 years and I so badly let them down. :( Do you think the fox will now come back regularly? as I intend to get more chickens, but will never leave it too late at night to shut the pop hole.

Welcome to the forum. I'm so sorry your first post is such a sad one  . Don't blame yourself, it's happened to lots of people :( . I think the fox will definitely come back so you will have to beef up your security a bit :( .

I'm going to move this over to "Chickens" which is a better place for you to get some, hopefully comforting, replies :) .

Thankyou so much for your ver y kind responses, It's just a shame that whenever we learn a lesson it's at some expense, in this case the lives of 2 very beloved friends.I will be rehoming some rescue hens as soon as the new FORT KNOX has been erected!!
