Chick chick song and How can a guinea pig show he's pleased?

Recommended Posts

Lovely baby daughter Bluebell, who is nearly two (in July)

gives a lovely rendition of chick chick chick chick chicken, lay a little egg for me.......

complete with bendy elbow movements that look like chicken wings flapping...

absolutely adorable....

I'm trying to get her to learn

"How can a Guinea pig shows he's pleased, when he hasnt got a tail to wag"

song too, but its taking longer..and my husband thinks its hilarious....and has never heard of it....

does anyone else know it?? No one at work has heard of it either.... My Grandpa used to sing it to us, when we were little....

Never heard of that one, but it sounds great! Words, please?

When I used to go to cub camp (as a helper, not as a cub  ) we sang a song that went "Oh I had a little chicken and it wouldn't lay an egg, oh I had a little chicken and it wouldn't lay an egg, so I rubbed some xxx on its leg, and now my little chicken lays a xx egg".

Insert appropriate words, e.g : I rubbed some chocolate on its leg, and now my little chicken lays an Easter egg; I rubbed some oil upon its leg ... fried egg, and so on.

The cubs were very inventive, and came up with lots of versions!

You always end with '"So I rubbed Akela on its leg, and now my little chicken lays a rotten egg".

After many a chick chat, both as a child and holding them (very wierd) at the farm, I know all the words to Chick Chick Chick Chick Chicken (and Happy Hatchday  ) .

Never heard of the Guinea Pig song though?

ok, here goes, as sung to me by my Grandpa, many years ago....:

How can a guinea pig show he's pleased when he hasnt got a tail to wag?

All other animals you will find, have got a little tail stuck on behind,

So they might have stuck a tail on a guinea pig

And finished off a decent job

Then, the price of a guinea pig would go right up from a penny up to 30 Bob

HOY!

I've always figured it to be a 1930#s song...but I dont really know....and unfortunately I dont know how to use YouTube...so I cant post me singing it...(thank goodness for small mercies !!!) LOL

I love the song....to be honest...and I may have the price part wrong, but the 30 Bob is right, I'm pretty sure,

Sorry for the large font, I have a new laptop (awful widescreen thing) and no matter how I change the resolution, it looks awful, and I can barely read it.....

just realised I dont understand, "old money" at all...

I originally thought the song was a Guinea upto 30 Bob, then thought perhaps this was wrong and that it was a Penny ??

I'm assuming a Guinea was worth more than 30BOB???

not even knowing how much a Bob was ??

(very confusing)

OH THAT SONG! It is driving me mad, I sing it to myself each morning when I go out to check for eggs. When my kids were little we had it on a Rod, Jane and Freddy video (spinoff from Rainbow) - I see in my minds eye Jane chirpily squatting and bobbing up and down in chicken fashion

Chick chick chick chick chicken, lay a little egg for me

Chick chick chick chick chicken, I'd like one for my tea

I haven't had an egg since Easter, and now it's half past three

So, Chick chick chick chick chicken, lay a little egg for me

Aaaargh!

Here's a different rendition from the one on my video

Hi

My mother taught us this, the correct words are:

How can a guinea pig show he's pleased when he doesn't have a tail to wag?

All other animals you will find have a little tail stuck on behind.

If you'd only put a tail on a guinea pig and finish up a decent job,

then the price of a guinea pig would go right up

from a guinea up to thirty bob. :D

I remember this song from when I was a kid. (Guinea Pig one). I used to hear it on the radio at my grandparents house in the mid 60's. Probably on the Wally Whiton or Ed (Stewpot) Stewart show. If anyone knows how or where to get a copy of this, please send me the info as my 4 year old is now dying to hear it.
