I found Clementine, my black maran, dead in her nesting box today

She was trying to pass a softie yesterday lunch time, so i separated her and put her in the shade with some water and food and she tried a few grapes. i kept checking on her and at one point she had her eyes closed sleeping. at tea time it looked like rain and she was not improved so i put her back in with the others so she could go in the coop if she wanted. I was giving up hope of her passing it by now as normally they are right within a few hours. she went straight to bed. i tried her with water but she didn't want to know and stupidly i had no syringe thingy.

Anyway this morning she was gone.

She never looked like she was suffering at any point, which I am glad about, but i wonder if i could have done more. She was a lovely hen, quite aloof, the one i could never catch as she never crouched, but she never stopped laying not once in the 11 months I had her from POL.

I will miss her lovely dark brown eggs.

I will post one on the chicken health board as my sussex now has shell hanging out of her vent
