Not looking for ones where the beds are smaller (though that wouldn't matter), but where they aren't as tall - do such things exist?

Couldn't you chop the legs off a bit?

 

My brother had a raised bed, a few feet up with sliding cupboards under it for storage which came from ikea.

Suppose I could cut the legs off! It was bunk beds (ie 2) that I was interested in rather than just one that is higher.

Maybe cut a bit off the legs under the bottom bed so theres still enough head room?

I assume they are a standard size because of headroom for the person on the bottom, so i think you'll struggle without a bit of DIY.

Not sure I understand the question... but we were looking for bunk beds that weren't too high as I was worried about my older boy falling out (he was only just 4 when we got them) but we found some made by Thuka that came with an extra rail on the top (and a rail on the bottom for my younger boy who was only 2)

Basically I wondered whether there were some that weren't as high - most I have seen recommend the top for at least 6+, so I was looking for lower ones that may be safer for 4 or 5 yr olds.

You could take off some of the leg from the lower bed, so the lower bed is nearer to the ground as well. My oldest son has a high sleeper as he needed the space underneath so he could fit his drumkit in his room. But it left him with no headroom - our ceilings are quite low. So we took a few inches off the bottom of the legs. Worked very well Or get a mid height cabin bed, and a low bed base to go underneath, like those futon style ones.
