My ex-batt girlie Florence has laid two eggs today...is this ok

 

She just laid one in front of me, but it had no shell it was just the egg, think it may have had a thin membrane but that was it...didn't really see the moment itself just turned round to see it on the floor.

Then went to check the nestbox and there was a perfect egg in there...however i checked the nestbox last night and it wasn't there so she has definately laid them both today!!

 

She seems absolutely fine in herself, will obviously keep an eye on her because of the shell-less one, just couldn't believe it!! She must have skipped the shell part of the cycle therefore making it come out 1 day earlier!!

If it happens more often, it might be an idea to give her a soluble calcium supplement such as ZolcalD.

My hen Desdemona, who is two years old, laid a soft-shelled egg in front of me, a couple of hours after laying a hard-shelled one. A HS egg and a SS egg is one day is their limit - so it does happen. Just a blip but yes, she may need calcium supps or possibly she may have worms - that was the cause in Des's case.

Thanks both - i have some zolcal-d in my chicken health cuboard so should it happen again i will put her on a course of this.

 

I also have some Flubenvet ready to worm her so may start her course tonight.

Snap! Had this today too from Burger who was ill a while back and lays softies regularly now.. but today had a softie and a normal egg from her..she's fine so wouldn't worry

I had this a while back except we got a hard shelled soft shell and then one that was just a bit of yolk. She was fine so i wouldn't worry

This time last year my Light Sussex, Bertha laid 2 hard shelled eggs in one day, one very early and one very late, so it can happen.
