When we lost Rita, we put it down to her being one of our oldest chooks but then Jean, one of our younger girls, died yesterday after a couple of days of looking hunched and generally miserable. We're hoping it's nothing sinister so we've ordered a new Eglu for three new girls but we'll be waiting a little while to make sure all our remaining girls are as healthy as they look before we get any more.

 

Funny how you get attached to a feathery creature, isn't it? The garden seems much emptier now.

its so sad when you lose one - especially if they are quite young. unfortunately it just happens sometimes. i think some of the girls may be destined for a short life - and there's nothing you could do to change it. i am sorry for your loss - it is amazing how you get attached to the little wee beasties

Im already attatched to my girls and ive been with them for just 1 day.

I couldnt imagine loosing one, so i'm so, so sorry for your loss
