tiggerlady
We had a trailer tent waaay back when the kids were small, but only went away in it once as OD got quite poorly,so we packed up in about 20 mins and came home and never used it again..sold it. Then we got a motorhome and the kids dodnt like that either, but as they were older they stayed at home. ..sold that as wasnt using it enough to justify the £330 a month the hp was costing We are now looking at getting a second hand sunncamp tent (so it wont be another expensive possible mistake) Do any of you have experience of them, quality, things to look for etc. We're going for a frame tent for the usable living space rather than a 'pod' shaped nylon-ish one and they look a lot more sustantial should we, by some remote chance, get a wet summer!! By the way there isnt a camping shop close-ish that we could go and pop in to look..nearest one is hour and halfs drive at least..
Olly
I've just been camping at the last Bank Holiday with friends who had bought a second-hand SunCamp trailer tent through Ebay. There were no instructions, and putting the awning up was very entertaining for the rest of us, and nearly reduced my friend's husband to despair! (He's a builder, and normally there is nothing that he can't fix - that's why we found this so amusing, we're not that mean normally). However once it was up, they were the ones laughing - it was huge, and my friend said that it was very comfortable. Theirs even has a cooker and a portable loo. They've just sold their camper van for the same reasons as you - taxing and MOT-ing it wasn't worth it for a few weeks a year - so this was their compromise, and they're very pleased with it. If you're buying second hand, I'd ask for instructions! they were also slightly annoyed to discover that the fabric was mould stained in places, well that can happen with a canvas tent but it might be worth asking to examine it before you buy. Snowy
If it's canvas, definitely look out for mould and mildew stains. It doesn't dry out as quickly as the newer nylon ones do. They also need re weatherproofing, I think every couple of years. Otherwise I think that sunncamp are a respected brand
chelsea
I know its not a tent but we have a sunncamp awning for our caravan and its very good. We get a lot of admiring looks/comments.
Chucky Mama
We have a second hand large Sunncamp dome type that we bought off Ebay. It is very very easy to put up and it withstood 2 horrendously wet and windy May Bank Holiday weekends. One morning we awoke to find several tents that had been blown down in the night or had leaked very badly but the Sunncamp despite being described as 'shower proof' was no problem. A chickychickychick-ENN!!
Get a geodesic domey shaped one. Really quick and easy to put up. We have one that has three poles, two bedrooms and large living area by Sunncamp and it's handled a LOT of weather. They are good tents. You may need to prime the seams with Fabseal once in a while but that's normal. Oh - and watch the zips. If you put it up without zipping the doors first you may stretch your zip. So be careful. But if you're sensible it's fine.
milli
Try having a look here: http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/tents/search.asp?m=1005 and you could always post in the tent forum, there are some very knowledgeable people over there.
