Six hatched....one still waiting!

we decided against disturbing mum but these two naughty little chicks scrambled out from underneath her and came out of the nest for a play!

She told them off soundly and pecked each of them when they climbed back in too!

The eggs were three light sussex bantams, two mille fleur pekins, one lavender/cuckoo/silkie/pekin  and one serama :D

I believe (but am no means certain) that the last remaining egg is one of the mille fleurs.

I'm getting a little worried about mum though....since lunchtime her comb and face are terribly pale and she's sitting with her beak wide open and eyes half shut.

She doesn't look at all well :?

:? Has she been getting off to eat, drink and go to the loo?

You may want to give her a few/grapes/sweetcorn, something with energy, and mix up a bit of sloppy mash to feed to her.

Try and get her to have a drink :)

we stopped evicting her (to poo) on day eighteen.

today is day twenty.

but we feed her by hand several times a day and we drop treats into water so she has to fish around to get them.

she's really panting now :(

Sounds like shes too hot?

Try and get some ventilation in wherever she is, but not too cold or the eggs could suffer. More water should help.

well, we opened all the windows but she just looked worse and worse.

Finally, we picked her up and put her outside, she did the most ENORMOUS poo and bless her, her comb went immediately back to scarlet

she looked positively grateful when we went to fetch her! I don't know who was more relieved!

she's now back with her babies :D

Glad she's feeling better now!

Sometimes they get so focused on sitting tight on the eggs that they forget they need to eat/poo!
