How many chickens do you all keep in your cubes? I have an Eglu at the moment with three hens in it and would like to upgrade to the cube so that I can add to my flock. How many do you have and what are the problems I am likely to face when introducing new hens to the three I have at the moment?

Thanks

Lisa

I have the 4 Orpies and 3 hybrids in one of my cubes and the 3 Batties in the other, I'm sure if the Batties could be bothered to try put the ladder, they'd be in wiht the others too, but have shown no inclination at all to try  .

It's not so much the sleeping space that is so crucial, it's the run space. They like to snuggle up at night but have plenty of space in the daytime.

Have as much room in the run as space and finances permit, then work out how many chooks you can put in....in my humble opinion :anxious: !

And yes keep the eglu for now at least for the intros :D !

There is room in the Cube at night for masses of hens: I would say up to ten large breeds and fifteen hybrids (as long as they like each other).

The problem is the run during the day: even with one extension, any more than four large breeds or six hybrids starts to look uncomfortably crowded.
