Old Speckled Hen
Following the success of my Step daughter's post wedding barbecue at our house I have foolishly, perhaps, volunteered the venue for my other step daughter's little girl's christening Please please save me with suggestions for food and drink Do you think another barbie is appropriate? We have a decent size garden which loses even the smokers so an outside party during the day seems to make sense. I'm quite good at grown up raucous parties but a bit lost in this case. Chucky Mama
For my ES's Christening we had sausages from around the world with different mustards & dips and range of salads. For example chilli with salsa dips, thai with satay dip and sweet chilli dipping sauce, Morrocan with yoghurty mint dip and of course relevant mustards with French etc. We made little flags to label which country each batch were from and had salads from each country. chickencam
We did buffet parties for our children's christenings. Loads of quiche and sausage rolls and salads usual stuff but something to please everyone and most of it can be done in advance and laid out at the last minute. Buffet tables can be made to look really lovely and although they are quite a bit of work before hand they are no work once the party gets started which means the host can enjoy it too. I love the sausage idea too yummy
The Dogmother
Great idea DA, damage limitation in having it outside.
theherd123
For my little girls recent Christening we did a 'bring & share' where, funny enough, everyone brought something to share! I also made quiche, spud salad, coleslaw and a few other odds & ends but we had loads of delish food brought - it was great and didnt half take the pressure off us! Hen Watch
BBQ sounds good to me...... and if it's horrid weather just cook it in the oven. What about stealing suggested menu ideas from here: https://www.waitrosedeliver.com/wdeliver/servlet/JSPs/shop/shopping_fs.jsp?siteCode=BI
Old Speckled Hen
Lots of good suggestions, thanks. Hubby is a whiz at sausages on the barbie and we have a good local supplier of free-range bangers. I'll poach some salad ideas from Waitrose ( God, I do miss that shop!!!!) That way he can cook and I can swan around with a glass of eldeflower champagne in my hand.
The Dogmother
Do Ocado deliver to your area?
Old Speckled Hen
Do Ocado deliver to your area? sadly no. My nearest Waitrose is 50 miles away. I just did a branch search and was surprised it was that close. Not close enough to warrant a weekly shop BUT it is on the way to Scarborough and Whitby and hubby could always go fishing ......... mmmmmmmmm
The Dogmother
Sounds like a plan there DA.....
kitchens
I think a barbie would be perfect and maybe a bit of salad and quiche for the elders who don't like barbequed food (someone is bound to say so!!). Could you beg, borrow or buy one of those marquee type things from homebase? We used one of those for my brother's civil partnership. You could hang up lots of bunting and bake lots of fairy cakes too. Have a lovely time whatever you do.
Old Speckled Hen
Ah the day looms, tomorrow and thank heavens I didn't make too many plans. The weather will be pants according to forecast and 2 weeks ago my OHs ex, the christening baby's granny, refused to come to our house. So we're all going to the pub instead
