After talking to Lisa from Garden Poultry - it got me thinking that if Bluebelles are a fatter bird - is the eglu and run suitable? I was thinking of 3 (Bluebelle, Speckledy + 1) with a convertor.

Absolutely not - a friend keeps 3 bluebelles in her eglu.

 

They are busty girls, but will still fit.

To me the test always is if they can fully extend their wings. We bought a Speckled Sussex and she struggled to do this. We had extended the run a lot but the width was the problem. So we now have a walk in aviary. Irony is....she spends most of her enclosed time (when not free-ranging) in the eglu which is attached to the side of the aviary. There's no pleasing some chooks!

I've had my bluebelle girls in the Eglu before now and they were fine.

I have 2 Amber Stars and 2 Bluebelles adn the Bluebelles whilst noticably heavier when I pick them up they are not significantly bigger that the Amber Stars. (I have a cube, standard run but all day free ranging).

I have a bluebelle in my eglu - she is no bigger than my magpies, but all three are bigger than my little Amber Star

Thanks guys - doesn't sound like a bluebelle in an eglu would be a problem.......now just have decide whether to go for 'normal' chickens or ex batts.....hmmmm

HI I dont think my bluebelle is fatter she is slightyly taller than the omlet birds..and very nosey matronly but a great breed I would def like some more bluebelles, I think she is my intelligent one...but I do have a cube..I think she would be ok in an eglu at night time..she is out all day anyhow!
