Sounds like they connect you rather than handing out the other person's mobile number. I'll go & look out all our mobile numbers though to make them all ex-directory! Our landline is ex-dir, may as well have the mobiles that way too!

presumably unregistered pay as you go's can't be found though because they have no idea who has them.

Are all PAYG phones unregistered then? Ours are all PAYG, though mine was a contract phone many many moons ago............

I think it is going to cost money to be ex-directory.

 

They send you a text message, which you are expected to respond to.

 

Standard charges apply, whatever that means.

It does appear to be genuine, although as Wild Mum says, they don't give out your number, just act as an operator and you have to agree to take the call anyway. I'd be wary of registering with them though as this just confirms your details to them. Apparantly, some of the details they have are very out of date.

 

My preferred option is to register my mobile number with the telephone preference service and the fax preference service, that way they can't contact you even if they know your number

I heard them discussing it on the radio.

 

You phone them and they connect you AFTER asking the person on the mobile if they want to take a call from you.

 

They have bought the numbers and you can opt out. To have made it an opt in service would have left it not viable.

 

So if I want to phone Claret I could call them up and tell them her name and which neck of the woods she lives in - if she was on their database they would then call her and ask her if she will accept a call from me before putting me through. They DON'T give out numbers.

 

I think it sounds like a good idea considering you store all your numbers in your own mobile and if you dont have that you could be stuck for contacting someone.
