Hi everyone

We got our hens today - Christmas (white chicken) and Easter PP ! We got them from Penrhiwgarn Poultry near Crickhowell (thanks for all the recommendations) and Easter is a Black Rock and Christmas is a Leghorn.

Forgot to say I've already ordered Garlic powder cos they smell already!! They haven't found the broccoli yet - think they too fazed by the grass and Easter found a slug earlier, which she enjoyed. Tomorrow I'm going to pick all the caterpillars off the raspberries and throw them in..............

KarenW - Easter was being awkward and clucking around looking lost as Christmas found the Eglu by herself. We had to put the whole cover up and my husband at one end making a racket to get her into the Eglu.... lots of fun in the sunshine but imagine it had been last week's rain?! Still, I think they're still a bit confused - and eating the grass like there's no tomorrow! What did you get? :D

Meezers - Hattie's cousin says hello!

Congratulations on your new chickens! Now that they have spent their first night in the Eglu they know where 'home' is. You should find that tonight they take themselves off to bed without needing prompting. Putting a torch in the Eglu sometimes works as it attracts them, but if its dusk it also attracts flying insects! We found a nudge with a long handled broom worked well in the past.

We got Omlet chickens, so 2 Miss Pepperpots and 1 Gingernut Ranger. Luckily the Miss Pepperpots have very different combs at the moment, so we can still figure out which is which  Hubby managed to get them in just after I posted last night and hopefully they'll put themselves to bed a bit earlier tonight without using corn as bribery!
