Old Speckled Hen
Hello fellow campers Four of us went camping to Buttermere hoping to walk up Haystacks. It rained Two of us reacted really badly to midge bites, strange really as i've never bothered too much but I'm STILL scratching. I won't use deet and citronella/eucalyptus seems to work for all of five minutes so I've just ordered some catnip oil to try. Wonder what my cat will make of that Has anybody any other ideas for a decent repellent??
abwsco
I always use Tea Tree oil. Some on my ankles, wrists and the back of my neck.

clootie
or start smoking. Granted that's a bit extreme but they hate that !! It won't do anything for the bites but it will make sure they don't bother you again. (I am kidding, just in case you thought otherwise people)
Sam Palmer
Avon's Skin So Soft Dry Oil Spray in Soft and Fresh. We were recommended it by the company that ran cruise holiday's of the Hebrides - we did a cruise of the Outer Hebrides, including St Kilda and we really needed it on the islands when the weather went still and the midges descended. Also used it during a week on the Isle of Canna last year, although the lady in the Tea Room was well equipped with it too. (She even had a different version/packaging to the one I get down south!) You do need to keep reapplying it, but it works well, you smell nice and it keeps your skin soft!
Ain't Nobody Here
We sent YS off with some Avon Skin So Soft for his 2 week hillwalking/cycling/canoeing expedition with the school in May. His ankles and wrists were covered in loads of bites when he came back . (Granted, I wasn't there to supervise the application but he says he used it .)
