Hello!

Well Eglu day finally arrived (purple eglu) and GNRPP safely installed in garden earlier this afternoon, inbetween thunderstorms.

Both looking very sorry for themselves in the rain, although look like they are enjoying the sun now, much chicken watching from patio window.

Anyone else recieve their Eglu and chicks today?

Thanks for the replies. No names as yet!

We have just manged to pursuade them into the (purple eglu) for the first time with the help of a torch.

Can anyone explain the strange behaviour of patrolling the side of the run?

We assumed they weren't sure where to go to bed, hence the torch. All safely tucked up now.

I'm sure I will be back with more questions.

Oooh, congratulations! We've had ours just over a week now and they're fab :D You did better than us at getting them in on the first night - took us ages and lots of corn as a bribe

One of ours spent ages running up and down the side of the run - we just assumed she was looking for an escape route, as she was always the first to poke her head out of the eglu when I opened it to check on them and just generally seemed very keen to be out and about

Enjoy them, they have been keeping us very amused :D

Well done, and congratulations on the new (purple eglu). I also got my new (purple eglu) today, collected it from Omlet HQ in person. I've had a (blue eglu) for nearly four years, but this chicken keeping lark is soooo addictive that now we have two Eglu's, a WIR, three hens and seven chicks. Ooops, sorry, didn't mean to alarm you .

Quick update: The chickens now have names! GNRPP

Seeing as they arrived the day after we returned from holidays, we have decided to call them Devon & Cornwall. Allowing plenty of scope for future chicken names :D

Quick question: I know we shouldn't let them out of Eglu run for 5 days, do we have to wait until then to handle them? We are keen to make them as friendly as possible.

Off to hand feed them treats after dinner!

it's true i started with just two; a sussex hybrid called Polka Dot and a leghorn called Zoe.....i have four kids and they wanted one each so....enter Beauty a silkie bantam and two light sussex called Spike and Twizzle ....i know thats 5, but Spike and Twizzle came as a twosome, i couldn't possible have seperated them :lol: then my bantam got broody...what was i to do i couldn't possibly denigh her the chance to be a mum could i????? so we now have seven chicks as well.......WARNING this all happened in the space of about five months!!! we now need a bigger house with a huge garden so we can have a cockerel... one of our frizzle chicks is definatly a boy!

they are brilliant pets the kids love them, two local schools have adopted a chick in a watch me grow project and i can't keep off this site.....you have been warned
