We are upgrading to a (cube green) next week and the intention was that we would sell the (green eglu) to help fund it. Thinking over the weekend would we be wiser to hang on the the (green eglu) as well if we can so that we have got somewhere to isolate sick chickens, use for introducing new birds etc etc.

We have 4 GNR at the moment and will be adding 3 more when we have the cube. Assuming a life span of 3-4 years and excluding any sudden losses I suppose we will be introducing new birds every couple of years as our birds will be a year apart in age.

What do other people do?

If you can afford to, then I'd keep it.

I bought a Cube. Some time later, I needed to introduce new girls and I bought an Eglu as well. My intention was to buy it, use it for the intros, then sell it. I figured that differencec in the buying and selling price would be less than the cost of hiring an Eglu for the period of time I needed it.

After the introductions, we kept hold of it "just in case", which turned out to be "just as well" as we got another pair of hens later.

Now we're holding on to it as we're going to use it when we let one of our girls hatch some fertile eggs for us.

One little thing, so many uses!
