Mites - Not a clue what they are or how to treat them! :)

Recommended Posts

hello fellow omleters!

in our chicken coop and aviary we have a huuuuge infestation of mites.

they are light brown and the size of a full stop.

thought they might be red mites but seeing as they have been in there for a few days now and not turned red this is not the case. :?

please please please give us your suggestions of what they could be and how to get rid of them as there are so many you can just step into the threshold and your trousers are covered in mites!!

thanks :)

I'd assume they are red mite, as they are so small, and get spraying with Poultry Shield as well as doing a full clean out and getting rid of all bedding etc. If you've not go any P.S. I can recommend Flytes so Fancy for speedy delivery. Mine was despatched the day I rang and with me next day. I bought the 5 litre size as it worked out to be much better value plus the massive tub of diatom as well.

Good luck!

Thank you for your suggestions :)

Have put down a load of red mite powder which we have left over from last year.

Will also order some Flytes so Fancy as well :)

If that doesn't work then I'm guessing that they aren't red mites unless this treats all types?

Also thanks for the article link - if the mites aren't red mites are there any other types they could be apart from those mentioned in the article?

Thanks again :)

Once you have got an investation of red mite they are quite difficult to get rid of. It will take several treatments of Poultry Shield over at least a 3 week period.

I have a wooden ark and so far I have been mite free but I saturate my coup with Poultry Shield once a week throughout the year.
