I was cleaning the lawn mower this morning after cutting the lawn when I heard a rustling sound coming from under the net around my cherry tree. I looked in there and saw a blackbird with a white spot on his head and noticed all the cherries had gone too

 

I thought that he was trapped and opened the front of the net only to see him fly through a gap at the back with the last cherry in his beak.

 

The cherries have been huge this year and really tasty and we have been eating a few every time we have gone into the garden, so he must have taken them all in the last 24 hours. There were quite a few left.

What a shame, when you'd gone to the trouble of netting it.

Dont do what i did and left picking blackcurrants another day as pigeons had a feast. My friend has a cherry tree and its laden, a pigeon ate some and pooed on her daughters school dress - purple reddish poo she was not impressed

I have some blackcurrants and josta berries under the same net I wonder if he will move onto those or if he has tummy ache by now

We actually managed to pick most of ours this year - I think our blackbirds must have been on holiday at yours!

Sympathies. We have a large cherry tree in our garden, too big to net. Last year I got ONE cherry before the blooming birds got them. This year I got NONE. What drives me mad is they just peck out a bit, then fly on to the next one. Drrrrrr!

My cats had a blackbird yesterday, but I don't think it was the same one because the 'thief had a white spot on his head.

Yep: I have a big cherry tree, every year the birds get to the cherries before me!
