Ygerna
and yesterday I think I found it Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hummingbird-Bakery-Cookbook-Tarek-Malouf/dp/1845978307 The recipes look amazing, totally 'to die for' cakes I can't wait to get started on them. Does anyone else have this book? If you do, which cake would you recommend? There are so many I'm not sure where to start
Milly
I have this book, having been to the Hummingbird Bakery on trips to London - the cakes aren't cheap, so I thought it would be good to make my own. My all time favourite is the Lemon Bar recipe. I suspect they are the kind of thing I might not even notice in the shop, when dazzled by the other things, but they are really good. They freeze well too and can be eaten almost straight from the freezer (there are only two of us, so we can't always eat them fast enough otherwise). I bought it because I love the Rocky Roads, but when I saw the recipe I was a bit too shocked to make them - 8 Snickers or Mars bars Plus all the other things... Some of the quantities are quite big - the Peanut Butter cookies are good, but make loads. I made the Banana and Chocolate cup cakes today, but they have sunk a bit. The mix seemed quite wet, with the banana in. Not sure if they are a success or not. Milly
sparkysmum
Hi I have the best cake book. It's a bit "old fashioned" and traditional but I use it constantly. Mary Berry Ultimate Cake Book (BBC)
chickencam
Mary Berry's Fast Cakes is my most used cake book, along with Be-Ro books and little one called Teatime Favourites.
Ygerna
I've made the Brownies this morning They are in the oven even as I type. I did lick the bowl and spoon clean though, purely in the interests of quality assurance and I can report that the mixture is YUMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEE I hope I bake them right, as they are for the teachers at preschool, its DS1's last day there for the summer. Olly
Mary Berry's Fast Cakes is my most used cake book, along with Be-Ro books and little one called Teatime Favourites. That book (Mary Berry's Fast Cakes) is my desert-island cake book, not sure I would make cakes on a desert island but it's the book I would have to have! It is absolutely brilliant, my copy is very worn and stained with bits of cake mix now. Coffee fudge(?) traybake, and the Date Shortcake (only it's Apricot Shortcake when I make it!) are the two most-used recipes.
chickencam
I love the mincemeat brownies and chocolate orange cake, treacle spice buns, can't go wrong chocolate cake, light treacle cake. My copy is very tatty too and looking through it I have just realised how many recipes I have yet to try.
bluekarin
and yesterday I think I found it Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hummingbird-Bakery-Cookbook-Tarek-Malouf/dp/1845978307 The recipes look amazing, totally 'to die for' cakes I can't wait to get started on them. Does anyone else have this book? If you do, which cake would you recommend? There are so many I'm not sure where to start I've just been reading some of the comments on this book - quite a lot of 1 star ones, mainly saying the recipes don't appear to have been tested properly before making the book, cooking times innacurate, and the cakes aren't very good. And some people really like it. It is a beautiful looking book though, so maybe see if you can borrow it from the library before buying. Ygerna
I got my copy from Costco, so much reduced in price. Ive made the brownies and cupcakes so far and whilst they tasted ok, they were not exactly as I imagine cupcakes and brownies to be. I thought it was my oven, it can be tempermental but after reading the reviews it seems less likely that my oven is at fault
