Racing pigeon question

Recommended Posts

Or rather naughty pigeon has fallen in love with my mum!!!! :? She was in the garden the other day and there had been buzzards around. Towards the evening she thought there was a dead fly on the floor by the window. Nope, pigeon poop and there it was sitting comfortably on one of her dining chairs! So she calls me. The pigeon had obviously been frightened and left a nice pigeon shaped mark on the inside of the window. We put it outside and took the ring number - I forgot they get tatooed on the inside of the wings, so didn't look there - it was rather traumatised anyway. It ate some bird food and flew away. Since then it has been back every day. I gather it may have come from Derbyshire (we often get racing pigeons having a stop off in Hook - we've probably had one every year all told). Today it has been knocking on the door and then sulking in the middle of the lawn. It looks quite a young bird. Perhaps it has Stockhausen Syndrome?

Any ideas what can be done - I gather birds that fail often are dispatched. So I can't bear the thought of that happening to such a lovely little thing (notice I don't mind those, but I will happily scoff a wood pigeon).

We found a homing pigeon at the farm once. They spoke to the owners and kept it in a rabbit hutch for a few days then it flew back home. I think it went back to the farm a few times but then always returned back home

OH's father-in-law was a pigeon racer one.

OH's advice is to open up the birds wing (if you can catch it) and there should be a Club or owners stamp of the inside of the wing, he said sometimes there are 3-4 stamps on one wing.

Another suggestion is to go onine to something like the "pigeon federation" or similar and enter the ring number online and it may come up with an owner.
