eggless! maybe egg drop syndrome??

Recommended Posts

hi all,

well my girls haven't been laying properly in months now and I'm at a loss to know what to do next. i've de-wormed them, stepped up the calcium, added oyster shell, ensured access to grit, cut out treats except odd bit of corn - what else can I do???

the only other thing that keeps cropping up in my mind is egg drop syndrome (EDS) though not sure how common this really is or what the likelihood is..? I just read an article about it that egluntine had attached as a link in a previous post and it mentions ducks and geese being natural carriers of the virus - we live opposite a goose farm so wondering about possibility of wild birds spreading the virus over the road... anyone have any experience with EDS?

also, my 3 are ex batts and we've had them 18 months now - maybe they have just gone into laying retirement? how long do ex batts usually lay for once rescued?

it was a bit strange that they all stopped laying at the same time though which makes me suspect some external factor rather than an internal one.

ps - ive just had nail extensions done for the first time and didn't realise how hard it would be to bloomin' type!!!!:roll:

ps - forgot to mention that a few weeks ago i did find an egg that the bottom had dropped out of (if that makes sense) like someone had sliced the bottom of it off plus have been finding the occasional wrinkled remains of a softie in the egg tray - another pointer to EDS??
