quickcluck
As you know I've had girls on order for delivery from the wernlas for ages. Since February in fact. All large Fowl. We've been phoning intermittantly to see how things are going. But now we are getting a tad peeved I feel for them as they have no control as to when the couriers come for deliveries. But when my OH called today they said could be this week could be another month!!! No idea. My dilemma is the oldest of the girls coming is now 22weeks+ the youngest 20weeks. I wanted to get them early as they have all got to squish into an eglu while the intros happen. Soooooo do I stop being childish and wait and hope they'll all fit in and just be disappointed with their age. Or try and source some girls nearer and that are ready now at POL or younger? Rant over!!! Opinions please. Desperate woman here!
Cooks
can you not drive and collect them? and you could ahve them when you wanted then?
Space Chick
Could you make a weekend of going to pick them up? I picked my girls up from there last weekend, I had been waiting since the end of May. It suited me to wait though as the WIR was being built. It seems a bit unfair that they are at POL and you are still waiting
quickcluck
unfortunately it's over 4hrs each way. We could do it in a day,but thats a days leave gone, and weekends are tricky with OH children here most of the time, hence we went for delivery
Space Chick
Could you take OH children? How old are they, a DVD in the back of the car might entertain them for the journey. I know they would enjoy going to Wernlas as there are loads of cool chickens to see and you can see the chicks etc. I was like a kid there last weekend, and it was raining heavily, I got soaked but enjoyed every second Perhaps you could make a day of it with the children? Alternatively, leave OH with the children and take a friend? It was a nearly 3 hr each way trek for me, and we just made a day of it. quickcluck
we will have to think of a plan.... Do you think they are too big to squish into an eglu now?
bigmommasally
Oh Quickcluck! I can't believe they're still not on their way You have been so patient, I would be more than a tad peeved by now! Have you looked to see if you can get them elsewhere?
sjp
how come they've got no control over the couriers? they're the customer or is tere only one poultry courier as DebsL said take the kids they'll love the place
Falkor
Could we chicken train them? I have no idea where Wernals is mind so it might be a silly idea!

Redwing
I'm bidding on a collection only item in Shropshire on ebay, I will let you know it I get it, maybe we could try and work something out Is it four you have on order? they should be ok in an Eglu, the run might be a bit tight though I'm surprised that they have no control over the courier but having met the owners have no doubt that this is true They will have been hatching all the time so could they maybe send birds from a younger batch? they would easily sell the older ones to someone who wants POL
quickcluck
Thanks everyone! They are only allowed to use this particular carrier it seems. So their hands do appear to be tied, but it is an unfortunate way to run a business is this world where you can get everything also immediately. Thanks Tasha for your offer, keep me posted. They are going in a section of the WIR so that shouldn't be problem. I am trying to source other breeds more locally and will see what comes up first, I might go for a pretty low egg layer such as an orp with 3 more hybrids for the eggies. A speckled to replace my poor molly and either another amber or columbine..... I am feeling a bit like a spoilt child, but I think you can see my point! Sally, you know who you must be feeling. Peeved and upset, but what can I do??? Anybody got any breeders I can try?
Budgies
Oh dear, that's not great is it? Sue and Shaun explained the problems they experience with their courier when we called to order our girls a few months back. I had been going to say we'd have them couriered, because like you it's a long way from here and our time is very precious. But we've gone for option 2 on the basis of their comments (!) and decided to pick them up ourselves. I too am impatient for my girls and get a bit disheartened when each time I ring them up they say "oh yours is a VERY recent order". Seeing as you've been waiting since Feb I can see what they mean!! I can see their problem in relation to filling my order - until they can sex the pure breeds (often not until 16 weeks) they can't tell whether they'll have enough hens to complete our orders, but the courier is another thing entirely, and pretty annoying! I've decided to just wait, but I won't be happy if I'm still waiting come Christmas, I can tell you! Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Can you ring Wernlas and say if you haven't had them within a fortnight, you don't want them, see if that gives them any leverage with the courier? So frustrating
