can I look after 10week old chicks?

Recommended Posts

daft question

Partridge are pretty unusual so if you fancy that colour you'll have something a bit different. About the orp/dotte cross, I have an bant orp who has dotte somewhere in her ancestry (partridge actually) and she is my best orp layer and/but also my best broody (3rd time this year).

I'd keep them separate for a while to make sure there are no nasties about and I'd also keep a good eye on them - growers at that age are susceptible to things. But all in all I'd DEFINITELY go for it if you like the idea of big softies :D

OK people, I need a plan!!!

Eglu currently standing on a table, So that will have to go on the floor with the roosting bars out - right?

Do they just sleep on the floor? What should I put down newspaper and hemcore?

ANything else?

Not that were are definately bringing them home obviously

Probably best to put it on the floor yes....just put hemcore in the poop tray for them to sleep on....means poo picking but it will only be for a while.

I put a cat littler tray in the back of the eglu with Aubiose in for them to sleep in as I was able to use less bedding and it was correct size to take in and out of the eggport so I could just tip it out and refresh bedding. Also meant they took less bedding outside into the run with them but this is before i used Aubiose all over.

I also used a traditional drinker along with a glug as this is what they were used to.

Well Cooks, you must have especially intelligent Orps! I didn`t see my three eat the whole of the first day.

They had a normal feed and grub.

Day 2 I threw a small handful of pellets on the floor under the grub and then they cottoned on.
