kathyschix
A few days ago I was outside, bent over taking a few photos of the garden bounty... ...and someone proceeded to fly up onto my back, crawl up to my shoulder and make themselves comfortable! Please excuse the messy, sweaty hair! And about 2 seconds later she pecked me hard on the cheek. OUCH. Silly chicken. Regards, Kathy We have eggs! chick wiggle
Aww, she does look gorgeous and very comfy up there too On a seperate note, we have grown sweetcorn for the first time this year and im thrilled to bits at how well its grown. I thought they were ready to be picked but the corn is still white like yours in the photo. Is this when you pick them or should i wait for them to turn yellow? A bit cheeky I know, but having seen yours i thought you might be the person to ask
Carol U
I love it! I've had a cat which did that but not a chicken. I'm also quite jealous that your peppers are so much more advanced than mine!
kathyschix
Thanks for your replies! Although it is finally getting warmer, we have had an unusually cool summer this year. Notice there are no tomato pictures??? I've gotten a few, but they are not doing wonderfully as they have in the past. Peppers are doing well though! Sandie...this is the best corn I have ever grown. In fact, I gave up growing it for several years because it never did well. I decided to try again this year and don't know what I did differently! I planted 24 organic, white sweet corn seeds in a small plot, only 12 corn plants came up and I'm getting about 1 full sized ear per plant...but it is delicious!!! Do you happen to have the packet that your seeds were in? I think the most common varieties of sweet corn will be either white, yellow or bi-color. The packet may have a picture and/or description of what kind you have. To my knowledge, a white sweet corn won't turn yellow. Perhaps you can choose an ear, peel back a bit of the husk and take a peek at the kernals? Sorry I can't be of more help! martinw
I must say, you take lovely food photos! Especially the corn, making me hungry! I've had great luck this year with my peppers, aubergines and chillis, everything else has been a bit of a disaster, my tomatoes went manky, and my potatoes/carrots went rotten due to this lovely summer we are having!!! Only been free ranging mine for the first time tonight, they aren't quite confident enough yet to do a parrot impression!
chick wiggle
Thanks Kathy, I would have stupidly been waiting forever for them to turn yellow! Gonna pick some tonight now mmmm looking forward to them
