maryannlucy
The girls arrive 2 weeks today, and in the meantime I am looking to get a chook book so I can learn more. Does anyone have any recommendations please? Thanks.

maryannlucy
Sounds like good advice and keeps money back for grit, and red mite stuff (I guess I have learned a bit already)
chick wiggle
You'll never stop learning on here, really. There is no such thing as a silly question on here. Absolutely anything you want to know just ask on here and without doubt someone will have the answer. Oh and welcome by the way
quickcluck
We picked most stuff up from all the eggheads on here!!! But I do have a couple of basic books to look through - one doesn't even have pictures
Scramble
This one is brilliant and written by Omlet people
Henhathnofury
I read a lot of books before keeping chickens but found that they pussyfooted or did not mention the negative things about henkeeping - disease, fox attacks, introductions etc. Here, there is lots of practical advice. Or you could try picking up some practical poultry magazines on ebay, or go to the library. Otherwise here is where I find my chicken sages. shoulders to cry on cyber champagne corks to pop....just chickeny friends really..when my land-line friends eyes have glazed over with my talk of scaly mite and 'cute things the chickens did today.' I have become a chicken bore but here, I can help other people with my experience and in turn, get valuable advice...............
MadMitch
I quite like 'Getting started with Chickens' and 'Avoid the vet' both from practical poultry £9.99 each. You get lots of advice and info on here but unfortunately I don't get on her much now due to work commitments.
WarrensWorld
I think you'll need 'Starting With Chickens a beginners guide' by Katie Thear. Everything else you can glean from the forum.
beulah59
I have a couple of books around - just to show folk who are interested, or who chicken-sit for us. Keeping Pet Chickens by Paul & Windham - the folk who had the idea for the Eglu in the first place! And Henkeeping - the NT handbook on poultry. Both are succinct and fairly comprehensive. But like others, I've picked most of it up online, this forum and others.
ubereglu
Also another good book, which you can pick up fairly cheaply is the Complete Encyclopaedia of chickens-very useful just for looking up odd things!
maryannlucy
So much advice, thanks everyone. I am off to have a trawl of book sites I already have a couple of questions, so I am going to have a look round here first and see if I can find the answers.
