Mine like to sunbathe whe the sun shines into their run but whe they get too hot they like to go into the shade

They like both, sorry that is not a definitive answer but when it was really hot earlier this year, they so badly needed shade, however when sun breaks out for five minutes on a cloudy day mine run out and sunbathe.

Same here, when it was really hot they didnt like it but are not liking this wet and cloudy weather we're having at the moment! so as long as you make sre they have a bit of both you should be ok

They love the sun, mine bask in the sunshine,but relish the shade when it gets too hot

Hi, I'd love a eglu, but its actually too long for my garden. I will measure up again tomorrow though.

 

I need one that is 3 ft wide x anything up to 9ft long. To fit down the side of my house which is shady, but does get a nice bit of sun in the early evening. Plus its close to the house so I can see/hear them plus i could gradually extend coop run with new panels etc.

 

I was considering this one as it will fit down the side of my house and I could extend the run:

but I prefer this one for the slated roof, but it is too wide and would need to go in full sun or maybe at end of garden:

I just posted that I bought chickens today! They are living in my cat run at the moment. Its 4ftx9ft. Am all for giving them loads of space and letting them out to freerange while i am in the garden too.

My Blackie loves to sunbathe. She lies down with one wing spread out to get the maximum warmth from the sun! I would really recommend a house from Omlet if you can possible fit it in. I know they are expensive. I started off with a wooden house and run before I knew about the Eglu. It was HARD WORK; difficult to move, keep clean and keep weatherproof. I also soon had red mite in it. I know some people get red mite in the Eglu but I have not had a problem and would think it is easy to deal with anyway. Fortunately I managed to sell the old house for a reasonable price and have never regretted the change. Good luck and have fun!
