Michy
I collected my chicks last Friday from a lovely place in Bristol. The chicks are sexed and therefore obviously supposed to be female. Lovely lady said that out of a batch of 100 (she buys them in) there will normally be around 5 cockerels. Thing is tho, my 3 chicks have occasionally been getting a bit flighty with each other! Not fighting but gentle s"Ooops, word censored!"ping Do female chicks do this to establish pecking order? I have raised chicks many times before but can't remember! I hope I haven't managed to pick 3 cockerels!!!!
teri
my girls have the occaisional spat. they are all laying so no chance of there being a sneaky boy in there they have established a pecking order but every so often it is questioned by one and reinforced by my top girl. i'd keep an eye on them just to make sure they dont get too aggressive with each other, however they should settle down fairly soon. if the pecking gets too bad there are ways to stop it that others can advise you on good luck
Griffin
My first hatch was five girls and one boy. The boy was as good as gold while the others bickered The girls are six months old and still have the odd disagreement.
Lewis
Ours do sometimes have a peck but it seems to be when they're all excited and out of the brooder. As you said, they're probably just sorting out the pecking order
