Gem_Seb
Hi! My chickens are 16 weeks, i have 2 light Sussex and one Silkie, all bantoms. What age will they start laying? they have just gone onto layers pellets and i have grit in the run and everything, is there anything else i need to be doing?!? My OH is getting very impatient! he checks their house every morning and evening to see if we have our first egg yet!! yet he still maintains that the chickens are mine and hes not interested in them at all! Patricia W
I think pure breeds are later. One of my Polands was 28 weeks and one was 10 months! Both sisters - but different hormones or whatever. But they now lay almost every day and will do until the very cold weather. Tricia
Poultry in Motion
Waiting for that first one to drop - always fun! You think it's never going to happen, but yours are still young. The day that you don't check them will be the day they lay!!! By the way, don't worry if the first few are small or soft (or both) or if they lay them outside the nest box. All quite usual. They soon get the hang of it. And no, you don't need to do anything else - they will know what to do when the time comes and they will do it when they're ready. chocolateeclaire
My 4 are all 22 weeks but nothing yet. Mind you there always seems to be one of my cats asleep in the nesting box which probably isnt helping!!!! Claire
