Harriet88
Yesterday I got 4 gorgeous cream legbar chicks, they are now 3 days old. I have had them off heat in the conservatory and attic room as it has been so hot in there. I have been told they mature much faster than most other chicks so i'm not sure if the temperature they need to be kept at would be a little cooler than most others. I can't seem to find any raising temperatures particular to cream legbars, all seems to be just basic. Any help would be very much appreciated as I haven't raised chicks before! Thank you, Harriet
Snowy
Hi, I don't know much about raising chicks so hopefully someone who knows what they are on about will come along soon! However, I would say that even if they do mature quicker, they are still likely to need some heat at this stage, especially at night. You will need a brooder with a heat lamp. The chicks will soon let you know if they are too warm by keeping away from the heat source. But I would think they will still need that option to return to it if they get chilled. craftyhunnypie
Hiya - yes get them under heat asap. I'd have the lamp at about 34 - 35 degrees C. They still need heat, but if the weather stays this warm, they will be off heat much quicker. If they huddle under the lamp - too cold. If they pant - too hot. Most chicks sleep sort of half / half. Half under the lamp, with the rest of them in the cooler part. I always provide a teddy for them to snuggle into too. Emma.x
Redwing
Yes they do need heat The fact that its summer will make them feather up quicker, my recent chicks came off heat at night from 3 weeks and a week later we have just switched the lamp off althogether (they are still indoors) I've not heard of Cream Legbars feathering up any quicker than most Its a shame you werent given better advice by the seller regarding their care in the early days
Lewis
I have some CCL chicks at the moment, they're 4 weeks old and still on the heat. I've been raising the lamp bit my bit every week to reduce the temperature and might start leaving it off in the day. Ideally they'd be in the side passage but the buiders are coming to replace all the guttering, and they're taking the roof off that to seal it all Mine have feathered up quickly and got combs quickly, but not unusually fast, I'd keep them on heat for now
Harriet88
Thanks everyone, put the lamp on them and they seem to be doing great!

Saronne
They are beautiful! I've got some Legbar eggs in the incubator (due to hatch on the 23rd). Are they really as easy to sex as that? Were the males pale with a light spot on the head? Saronne x
Harriet88
Yes, when I got them (I bought them as chicks, couldn't risk having boys unfortunately) the lady showed me how to sex them and it really was very easy, the boys has big yellow spots on their heads and their middle stripe down the length of their body was more of a coffee colour, whereas the girls stripes are very deep brown/blackish like mine. Hope this helps, good luck with them (remember to post the pics when they hatch I'm sure we'd all love to see) Harriet x
