I came home yesterday to find at least 30 feathers in the run! I'm presuming this is another moult as the girls already had one a while ago! This must be the big moult considering all the feathers that were in the run! (unless they've had a pillow fight?)

It's funny what sets them off isn't it?

 

Our Kilo has been gently shedding the odd feather over the past couple of months. A fortnight ago she stopped laying. Over the past week there are a lot more feathers!!!

 

This is probably her first proper moult we think

I came back from holiday to find the apparent contents of a duvet in my walk in run . Only one is moulting although I've found the occasional feather from another hen (perhaps she's shedding in sympathy ).

I have a run floor that looks made of feathers, then she comes out to the garden and shakes herself and covers the garden as well!

One of mine looks like she is wearing a bolero jacket and nothing underneath! Rude madam that she is! My girls have moulted before but this is Orla's third summer and she is really going for it this time. She really is bald as a coot across the complete bottom half of her body!

 

Most of the others have started their moult too, so with 2 brodies and a myriad of moulters, from 13 chickens I had 2 eggs today!

Now that is sad - I may weigh eggs, but counting feathers is something else!
