Angels4
when ever that might be, but I've been looking into beekeeping courses in my loccal area. I found this interesting bit on the Massachusetts Associations web site. Quote: Did you know? Personal hygiene left much room for improvement in the 17 & 18th centuries. As a result, many women and men had developed acne scars by adulthood. The women would spread bees wax over their facial skin to smooth out their complexions. When they were speaking to each other, if a woman began to stare at another woman's face she was told, 'mind your own bees wax.' Should the woman smile, the wax would crack, hence the term 'crack a smile.' In addition, when they sat too close to the fire, the wax would melt…Therefore, the expression 'losing face.' Couperwife
wow I remember watching a programme on tv when they were talking about plastic surgery, apparently, at one point people used to have wax injected into their faces to give them a face lift , and it used to shift , so they would sit infront of the fire and try and melt it to put it back in place interesting - not something I would like to consider cathy x
