Homemade Cider and Perry anyone?

Recommended Posts

Couperwife's post about what to do with her bags of apples and pears prompted me to ask if anyone has made their own cider and perry? Its something I am thinking about (coming from Somerset it's in my blood  ) but wanted to know whether its actually that easy or not.

Anyone?

I make cottage cider which isn't the same as true cider but tastes rather nice and is particularly slurpable on a warm summer's evening. It's made in the same way as wine - the apples are fermented out in a fermenting bin with water, yeast, sugar and sultanas (for added body) and then strained into demijohns to finish working. You bottle it up and it's ready to drink. Easy peasy and no need for special fruit presses etc either.

OH made some last year and is intending to repeat it this year. He was careful to follow an internet recipe to the letter and it came out fine. He's got me saving 2 litre pop bottles in preparation.

:?: Linky to the internet recipe?

I have a huge bag of apples from my ED's Godfather, so this weekend is going to be brandy apple weekend unless I can find a recipe that looks like I can do it without the press...
