Very subtle colour difference

Recommended Posts

Grace has been laying every other day since the day after my girls arrived. I was not expecting an egg today as she laid yesterday. However, I always have a peek and there was one. :D

I wonder though if it might not be Rita who has laid her first !eggbrown! as it is a very subtly different shade of brown and has a bit more of a lustre to it. Not a lustre from being freshly laid - it was cold so had been around for a good couple of hours at least.

But Rita's comb etc. is not at the same stage as Grace's was when we first got her - but I don't know how long she'd been laying for. But I do fancy her comb is redder than yesterday - but that may be wishful thinking on my part.

Is it possible I've a 2nd clever girl?

I know I might have to dedicate some time tomorrow to find out. However, due to work and a weekend away I won't have chance to mooch doing nothing but chicken gazing for another 2 weeks after tomorrow.

I suppose I can hope I find 2 eggs over the next few days.

Grace is an Amber White, Rita is a Lohmanns. Oh, I realise that Grace's egg colour has never varied until today. Today's egg is the same size as all the others I have collected - but HD as compared them and noticed it is slightly more pear shaped than the only egg sat in the box that we have not eaten for breakfast.

Any ideas? Am I grasping at straws? :?

Sounds possible, but you will know for sure when there are two. :D

I've still not had 2 but am pretty sure Rita is not laying. :(

However, will a chook that has, up to now laid plain eggs, start to lay speckled ones? Today's offering was - you got it - speckled.

This is me clutching at straws and hoping for 2 layers out of my three.
