midgie
Hiya, I'm new here, just posted my introduction last night. I wondered if anyone knows where I can find a Cream Legbar POL for sale in Scotland? I'm up north, in Aberdeenshire, but would travel... but I can't find one anywhere! Any recommendations gratefully received, thanks
eggregiousness
It's hard to find chickens in Scotland if you have a particular breed in mind. I wanted Cochins and eventually got them from the DTB Centre - that's in Devon! They were en route for 3 nights and I was frantic with worry! I wouldn't do that again. I'd wait and find someone who was coming up anyway who could pick one up for me. The birds were fine by the way and the people at the DTB are lovely and very helpful. Redwing
ANH has a Columbine which has a high possibility of laying blue/green eggs if thats what you are after, hopefully she will spot this and say where her birds came from If not at least my post bumped your topic back up Good luck

ajayb
I think I can actually help! We live in central Scotland and I got a POL Cream Legbar (who lays fantastic much-admired blue eggs every day) from Doune Traditional & Rare Breed Poultry, based in Doune near Perth. Contact John & Sarah Burrows on 01786 842788 or wackwack@btinternet.com. Definitely avoid 'All Year Round Birds'! Anne PS I'm trying to find two bona fide POL Marans (the glossy chocolate egg-laying variety) in Scotland if anyone can help me with that! midgie
Hi, Ajayb, I've not had much luck with that email address, (keeps bouncing back to me as a failed delivery) but I'll keep trying them on the phone... I've found their website too, they look great! It's always nice to get a recommendation - I've found quite a few small breeders online, but you never know if you should avoid them or not... Thanks again, Anna
ajayb
Hi Anna, Sent the last message before going out for the afternoon with the dogs. Should have said that they usually answer the phone number in the evening as they 'caretake' a large country house and often have to look after guests. I do have an alternative e-mail address, which is johnandsarah@dtrbp.co.uk. They charge a bit more for their hens (ca £25 each) but they are big, healthy, pure bred chooks! I hope they have some Legbar POLs for you. Anne
Ain't Nobody Here
Only just spotted this . You could also try George Ogilvie at Ballencrieff Mains near Haddington. My Columbine came from there and I know he has some in at the moment.
midgie
Thanks both, I've asked my husb. to call them this evening, 'cos I'm at work (clearly not working too hard at the mo...) so we'll see how he gets on. If no luck, will try Ballencreif. Thanks again!
alyb
I got all four of my posh girls from Doune in March - good healthy hens - and Lilly the legbar lays lovely pale eggs.
