Am I ok to start the thread for this?

 

Has anyone read it? It was my choice so I would love to know what others thought of it.

 

I found it hard going at first but persisted because I had heard that it was good.

 

Ultimately it is a love story spanning two generations, exploring human nature and family dynamics.

 

I loved the character of Fermin and thought the tension and atmostphere in the book was excellent.

 

My OH picked up this book in our local charity book shop after I had read it, he thought it looked familiar He enjoyed it too.

 

The concept of a library of forgotten books is great, the British library doesn't quite have the same romance.

I enjoyed it too, and would categorize it as a challenging book, but ultimately very worthwhile sticking with.

Not sure I would read it again, but I did enjoy the mystery & suspense of this book.

I lost interest in this book about half way through I'm afraid. Just not for me.

I absolutely loved it, and the sequel too - "The Angel's Game". I have to say that the sequel is a bit of a brain stretcher, but I hope that everything will be explained in the next one. The author said he visualised a trilogy.

 

I read "The Shadow of the Wind" as an Audiobook and I was so engrossed that I had it on on even really short journeys and sometimes sat in the van listening to it rather than getting out and getting on with things!

I loved this book and didnt guess any of the plot 'twists' like I normally try and do. I also loved the character Fermin and thought it was a lovely when they kept their promise with the gentlemen in the home

 

The only thing I didn't quite get was that it always felt as if the weather was cold and wet and windy whereas I always think of Barcelona as hot and sunny!!!

I really liked this book because I thought it worked on all sorts of levels. I did find it a bit hard going from time to time, mostly because it was all so relentlessly dark....even the weather was appalling but overall it was a very satisfying read....Although I've lent it out to several people it's one of those books I've asked to have returned each time....not quite sure why...perhaps I think I will re-read it at some time...(or maybe I should just declutter!)

I gave up on it a couple of chapters in as it just didn't grip me - which is very unusual for me. I do have a personal rule of not reading books that make me bored or those which I know are going to make me miserable but I rarely give up on a 'literary' book like this one.

I didn't realise that there was a sequel, had a look on Amazon last night, again very mixed reviews, something for the Christmas list maybe.

 

I have so many book group books still to read, I have a break from time to time and read something else. I have read about half of them, but with winter coming I have a good library building. I have read November's choice so that gives me some breathing space, it is a book that I read whilst having a break from book group books

 

I am half way through the Book Thief at the moment, I will have to dig out the thread for that one soon

I really want to read this book so I'll not read this post until I have otherwise something in the plotline will be ruined for me. Does sound intruiging. I read Amazons reviews on it, which were very much mixed.
