Help!

Recommended Posts

My lovely Queenie died on Monday, she shared an eglu with my 2 araucana x's Pandora and Astrid who are 16 weeks old. Every night since they have been roosting on the cube run ( where my 6 big girls live) instead of going into the eglu. They seem to want to be near the big girls, they free range with them every day without problems so I'm wondering if it would be ok to try them in the cube with the others tonight or should I put them back in their own eglu? I don't know what to do -Help!!

They are still quite young, but overnight should be ok as they should all be quite dopey - pecking doesn't tend to happen during the hours of darkness. A good idea to take them out again in the morning, and maybe just keep putting them in at night for a week or so (if you can stand it!) - it's a good way to introduce them and they should get used to each others scent that way. I'd still be careful during the day, though as they're more likely to get picked on then.

Got up at 6:30 to let everyone out, 6 big girls came out first as usual, followed by Pandora and Astrid about 2 minutes later. They'd obviously stayed in the nesting box all night, had to scoop out their poos! I doubt if the others noticed they were there as it was dark when I put them in. Seems to have gone well but I don't know what to do tonight  I would be grateful for any advice, Thank you in advance
