How Quickly Does Albendazole Work?

I've read the instructions but am still not sure.

 

It's such a small tub considering I have to give it my three girls for 7 days

 

My plan is.... to start tomorrow morning with a dose in their feed then, and leave them in their run for most of the day, and let them out for an hour or so before bed.

 

I plan to do this for the seven days.

 

Is that ok?

 

Now...... do I put some of the flubenvet inside some grapes and make sure each of the three chooks has a share?

 

Or do I just put some in their layers pellets and HOPE each chook has some?

 

What if one chook has more than the others?

 

If another thread has been posted about the same, please direct me to it.

but it does depend what strength Flubenvet you have on how much you mix with their feed.

 

If you let us know what strength I am sure someone will help.

best to follow the instrutions

I use a bread bag for the first kilo then an unsented small pedal bin bag don't use a carrier bag because they have air holes in them I assume you've got the 1% as you've only just brought it in which case it's 1 blue scoop a 2 kilos of feed. put about 100 grams into the bag add a glug of CLO shake add the wormer give it a shake then add more feed half a kilo shake then add the next half kilo shake then i transfer to the bin bag add mor feed until you've got the full 2kg in shaking the bag between each batch of feed

tip the more air space the better just like flouring fish in a bag takes me about 10mins to do

The 6g scoop included is enough to medicate 2kg of food. This medicated food alone should be fed for 7 consecutive days. If your chickens consume the 2kg before the 7 days has elapsed just make up a 2nd batch or as much as is necessary to complete the course.

 

Each chicken will eat the food it needs for it’s bodyweight so bigger birds will take more medication than smaller birds which ensures each bird gets the correct dose for their size/weight.

 

Mixing evenly is important

1/ Weigh out 2kg of food

2/ Remove a cupful of that food and add to it one level scoop, mix well.

3/ Remove a slightly larger amount of the 2kg and add it to the cupful of medicated food. Mix well

4/ Continue adding food from the 2kg bag to the medicated mix in stages until the whole 2kg is incorporated.

(a small amount of oil can be added to help the medication to adhere if absolutely necessary)

 

Fill the feeders with the food and check them each day to ensure there is still medicated food available. Do not offer any other food or treats during medication. If the 2kg is eaten before 7 days has elapsed, make up another batch of medicated feed.

 

It is best not to use the grape method as Flubenvet is designed to be taken thoughout the day rather than in 1 hit.

Mixed 2kg of food with one scoop full of flubenvet, shook it all around in a bag (a bit at a time) and slowly that food is being eaten. We keep them in the run most of the time, but let them "free range" for a couple of hours every day.

 

Have noticed worms in their droppings, though never sure if its all 3 of them, or just one. So something must be working.

 

Now I've done it, it will be easier to do next time.

 

How often does this need doing?

 

Had the oldest bird 3 years and this is the first time.

If you are to offer no other food for the 7 days, does that mean they are unable to free-range for 7 days? Mine are never confined to the eglu other than for when the window cleaner comes around, I'm sure they wouldn't be happy at 7 days in just the run.

I still let mine freerange but it's a good idea to limit it till later in the day so they've had a good chance to fill up on the pellets.

Yep, every 3 months for standard treatment. More often if you know you have an issue. Whilst they should have no other food during the 7 days I have to confess that I do still let mine free range. If my girls had an obvious worm issue like some of the awful stories that we have had posted I might keep them in but as I am doing it as a routine, I let mine out as normal.

As some of the others say, I too let mine Freerange for a couple of hours during the day, so long as they try and fill up on the medicated food first
