I'm a neglectful mother!

Recommended Posts

I have two young 18 week old Polands, Joy and Babs. Their bouffant hair do is pure, pure white (and not muddy white like the big ones) and the rest of them is pure black.

Now, next to the eglu, I have a very pretty climbing white rose which winds found an arch in the garden (hang on there, this is all relevant) and is full of autumn flowers. The arch has rungs about 12 inches off the ground on each side.

Yesterday evening, the babies were free ranging in the garden and usually, by about 6.30 they put themselves to bed in the eglu. I go out about 7.30, shut the run door and the eglu door. This has been happening for weeks and weeks without mishap.

Well, yesterday I forgot till about 8.30 when it was dark! This morning when OH went to let them all out at about 8 - what did he find, but two happy little ones, already out there, pecking around the rose arch! We think they roosted there and their little white heads just looked like white roses in the dark! I actually shut them out - not in! Mustn't do that again........

 maybe its a Poland thing, my two would sleep outside if they could. I bet once you had got over the shock it made you smile. We thought we had lost our white one and we searched everywhere and eventually found her nesting in a hanging basket. Glad your girls survived their little adventure and I bet you double check the eglu now :D

I'll have to talk to astw about a photo....

Trouble is white crested Polands are not very photogenic from the front as they have black framing their face. The white bouffant looks best from the back. It won't stay pure white long though - once the winter starts they will begin to get muddy, even though I keep the eglu run covered.

They are definitely in the eglu tonight, but they had to be tempted into the run with mealworms as they both decided to be a flowers again!
