chocchick
When I was little my Mum used a piece of "oasis" (garden centre?) and we stuck candles, decorations on a stick/wire and plants real/plastic into it.
Lesley
You could put the candle into Oasis in a terracotta pot - it helps to have some weight. Paint the pot gold or silver and add some ivy to the edge, around the pot. If you put Christmas hats into Google Images, you will find plenty of ideas like this one....... sorry - still trying to get the photo to work Edited December 11, 2006 by Guest
Guest
Thank you all I will go into Blue Peter mode sometime this week after 4 school plays to attend and cards to write
Charlottechicken
Debs, is Jules's outfit themed, or is the hat the only dressing up bit? If it was just a hat and normal clothes, what about a nice big cardboard crown (3 kings?), sprayed gold, quite high with loads of tinsel in the top, and some 'jewels' stuck round the outside, and a bit of tinsel for fur around the base? Or make a big pointy cardboard cone and cover in green tinsel and dress to look like a Christmas tree? Have fun anyway, and don't forget photos
ubereglu
For the table decoration you could make a 3D tree out of cardboard by cutting out 2 identical trees and then doing slots in them. 1 at the top of one and one at the bottom of the other one. You'll need to paint them though. Mum did this when she helped out at Playgroup years ago. Did you watch Blue Peter today though? They were making santa's elves today and you could make a whole group of them. Go to www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/bluepeter and find the details off the website. They looked fairly easy and quick to make. Guest
Liz Thank you that's brilliant, love the Blue Peter idea, I think I have most of the things lying around Claire I think I will use your idea for the hat, but try and do an angel (that's what Jules wants)
ubereglu
Oh, good! Glad I could be of some assistance. If you make a whole group of elves you could make a scene out of them on a large white piece of card and make some little pressies for them to pile up in a cardboard sled.
