4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

My chickens and eglu arrived at 11.30am - 2 Gingernuts and 1 Miss Pepperpot (Bianca, Bonny and Betty) .... they have been scoffing homegrown sweetcorn scattered into the run all afternoon, and by 7.30pm, to my great surprise and delight, there were 2 eggs in the nesting box!! 1 white, 45g and 1 brown, 44g. Wow!!!! Go girls!!!

I was really surprised as the nice man who brought them said he thought it may be a couple of weeks before they start laying - he said the combs were still a bit pink indicating that they may not be quite at the point of lay yet...

 

Do you think that may be because they really liked the fresh sweetcorn and wanted to say thank you?

I guess the girls are happy... ....They were all cuddled up together at dusk in the corner of the run under the shade....they didn't want to go in the eglu ....I had to pick them up and pop them through the top door....then they were banging about a bit in there.....but they settled down after a while

Hello and welcome to the forum - congrats on the eggs Don't worry about them not going in the eglu, they probably didn't realise that's where their bed is.

If they don't go in on their own tonight, try opening the egg port & shining a torch into the house...they should go towards the light and settle down....not sure why it works but it does, even my daft Orpie managed it when she was in the in it's sinbin capacity

 

Having been put in last night and come out this morning though they should manage it all on their own tonight

Thanks ChickVic and WildMum for the welcome and advice. They are fast learners 'cos tonight they went in by themselves! Bianca and Betty were eating corn kernels from my hand today , but not Bonnie....

 

Sadly no more presents today though . I had the first 2 scrambled for breakfast this morning with some smoked salmon - delicious!

we got our fourt chooks yesterday and within a couple of hours we had our first egg, we think from the columbian black tail - tikka. Then today we had another egg from one of the others - i think this was from the black star - balti...
