Sorry if this question has been asked loads of times already.

 

Mavis, my Goldine is looking rather worse for wear. For the last few weeks she has looked increasingly bald on her underneath. All her white feathers are falling out, as are feathers on her neck. I am not sure where all the feathers are going - I haven't come across a large number in the eglu or WIR. In the droppings tray there are lots of scaly bits.

 

I have checked for mites and lice and can't see anything.

 

Do you think that she is moulting or do you think that I should get her checked out? She is otherwise fine - eating and drinking well, running around and not a victim of pecking as far as I can tell.

 

Bit of a ramble but anyone got any ideas?

I have the same with Polly one of my ex batts at the moment, her feathers had started to grow back on her wings, but from her breast to her bottom she is getting rather bare.

 

I also cannot see signs of lice, and she is not a victim of pecking. She is also eating and drinking well and laying well.

 

I have presumed a moult, so would be interested to hear other views

Sounds like she's moulting. Does she have little feather spikes poking through?

 

The scaly bits, as you described are probably just the new feather casings falling off as the feather grow.

Sounds like shes moulting to me

 

two of my girls are moulting at the moment, it looks like a pillow fight gone wrong outside
